Norland Pre-School
& Out of School Care

Early Years Foundation Stage

Whilst your child is with us observations will be undertaken by their keyworker.
All observations, examples of work and photographs are collected in your child’s
online Learning Journey. This celebrates your child’s progress during their
time at Norland pre-school, and helps both staff and parents identify the stages
of development your child is at and how we can help them progress further. Your childs online Learning Journey can be accessed at any time, simply by logging on the Early Essence website (https://www.primaryessence.co.uk/norlandpreschool) or downloading the App.

The setting works with the Early Years Foundation Stage which is a single quality framework that supports a child’s learning and development from birth to the end of the Foundation Stage (End of reception year at school) .

The aim of the Early Years Foundation Stage is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters Outcomes:
  • BE HEALTHY
  • STAY SAFE
  • ENJOY AND ACHIEVE
  • MAKE A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION
  • ACHIEVE ECONOMIC WELL BEING

The new Early Years Foundation Stage now incorporates seven areas of learning:
  • Three PRIME areas - Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Communication & Language and Physical Development;
  • Four SPECIFIC areas - Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts & Design.
